ABSTRACT The utilization of organic wastes in agriculture is an alternative that can reduce the amounts of mineral fertilizers applied to the soil. The aim of this study was to evaluate the accumulation of macronutrients in sunflower cv. 'Hélio 250' fertilized with cassava wastewater. The experiment was conducted in randomized block design, with six treatments (0; 8.5; 17; 34; 68 and 136 m3 ha-1 of cassava wastewater) and four replications. The accumulation of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg) and sulfur (S) were evaluated in leaves, stem, capitulum and achenes. The cassava wastewater dose of 136 m3 ha-1 promoted the greatest accumulation of all evaluated nutrients. The pattern of macronutrients accumulation occurred... |

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the contents of macronutrients and also chlorine and sodium in the diagnostic leaf, and the extraction and export of macronutrients in sugarcane irrigated with saline water and leaching fractions. The experiment was conducted in a complete randomized design in a 5 x 2 factorial scheme with four replications, corresponding to five levels of water salinity (0.5, 2.0, 3.5, 5.0 and 6.5 dS m-1) and two leaching fractions (L1 = 0 and L2 = 0.17). The treatments were applied 60 days after planting. At 280 days after planting, diagnostic leaves were collected and used to evaluate the nutritional status and the contents of Cl and Na. At 360 days after planting, the sugarcane was harvested and its stalks were... |

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the concentration of cations in the leachate of soil cultivated with sugarcane irrigated with brackish water. An experiment was carried out in drainage lysimeters at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, at the Recife campus. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 5 x 2 factorial scheme, with four replicates, corresponding to five levels of electrical conductivity of the irrigation water (ECw) (0.5, 2.0, 3.5, 5.0 and 6.5 dS m-1) and two leaching fractions (LF1 = 0 and LF2 = 0.17) corresponding to water depths equivalent to 100 and 120% of crop evapotranspiration (ETc), by which the irrigations were managed. Electrical conductivity of the drained water was daily monitored and Na, K,... |

The qualitative aspects of water, such as the preparation or replenishment of the nutrient solution, are critical to the success of hydroponic crops. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the behavior of “Americana” lettuce (cv. Tainá) under increasing levels of saline stress (0.2 - control, 1.2, 2.2, 3.2, 4.2 and 5.2 dS m-1), replenishing the evapotranspiration with brackish water in Experiment I and supply water (0.2 dS m-1) in Experiment II, both used in the preparation of the nutrient solution. In both experiments, the treatments were arranged in a randomized block design, with six treatments and four replicates. Shoot fresh matter, shoot dry matter and leaf area in Experiment I suffered reductions of 15.22, 12.67 and 15.6% per unit increase... |

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the content of macronutrients and sodium in corn ( Zea mays) plants as a function of different doses of cassava wastewater and ages of the plants after emergence. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse in pots with capacity for 25 dm3 of soil, using a 5 × 3 factorial design with four replicates. The studied factors were doses of cassava wastewater: 0; 12.6; 25.2; 50.4; 75.6 m3 ha-1, and plant age: 20, 40 and 52 days after emergence (DAE). Potassium, calcium, magnesium, nitrogen, phosphorus, sodium and sulfur contents were evaluated in leaves and stalks. Nutritional deficiency of calcium was visible at 20 DAE. The increment in cassava wastewater doses increased N, P and K contents in plant shoots, but decreased Ca... |

ABSTRACT The use of brackish water in hydroponic crops represents an alternative for vegetable production. In this context, two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effect of using brackish water to prepare the nutrient solution and replace the evapotranspired depth, applied at different flow rates, on cauliflower biometrics in NFT (nutrient film technique) hydroponic system. In both experiments, the experimental design was completely randomized with four repetitions, in a 6 x 2 factorial scheme: six levels of water electrical conductivity (ECw) in interaction with two flow rates of nutrient solution application in the hydroponic channels (1.5 and 2.5 L min-1). In Experiment I, brackish waters with different EC (1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5 and 5.5 dS m-1),... |

ABSTRACT The tolerance of crops to salinity is greater in hydroponic systems due to the low contribution of the matric potential to the total potential of the water. The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of brackish water, to prepare the nutrient solution and replace the evapotranspired volume, and rates of application of this solution on the water stress index, water potential, leaf succulence and water consumption of cauliflower cv. ‘Piracicaba Precoce’. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 6 x 2 factorial scheme, with six salinity levels used to prepare the nutrient solutions (0.2, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5 and 5.5 dS m-1) and two application rates of these solutions (1.5 and 2.5 L min-1), with four replicates. Water stress... |

ABSTRACT The use of brackish water in agriculture can cause salinization of soils and reduce plant yield. This problem can be minimized by hydroponic cultivation, which improves plant development. The aim of this study was to evaluate the yield of cherry tomatoes grown in hydroponic system with substrate under salinity levels of the nutrient solution (NS), exposure time to salinity and irrigation frequency. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, in a randomized complete block design, in a 6 x 2 x 2 factorial scheme with five replicates: six salinity levels of NS prepared with brackish water (3.01; 4.51; 5.94; 7.34; 8.71 and 10.40 dS m-1); two exposure times to NS (60 and 105 days) and two irrigation frequencies (one irrigation per day and irrigation... |
